Physical Education

At Sir William Burrough, children take part in regular physical education to support their physical development and overall well-being. Children in Key Stage 1 (KS1) and Key Stage 2 (KS2) participate in two PE lessons each week. In the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), physical development is integrated into continuous provision through a range of active play opportunities. We follow the GET SET 4 PE scheme of work to ensure a structured and progressive approach across the school.

In KS1, pupils focus on developing fundamental movement skills, basic dance and gymnastics techniques, and are introduced to team and invasion games. As children progress into KS2, they build on these skills and begin applying them in a wider variety of sports. They also start learning key game tactics such as attacking and defending and how to use them effectively as well as developing their abilities in net and wall games. In lower key stage two, our children attend weekly swimming lessons for half a term to build water confidence and swimming skills.
