We’re delighted to share the wonderful progress made in our weekly recorder lessons. This week our Year 3 and 4 classes continued to build their musical confidence through a range of engaging activities designed to strengthen their understanding of rhythm, sound and technique.

To begin the session pupils practised making the rhythm with their voices before using their recorders. This helped them focus on the pattern they would later play and supported their listening skills. The class then discussed the notes they already know on the recorder, this helped to build on their growing knowledge of music.

Pupils were asked to show the note B on their recorders without playing so they could concentrate on the correct finger placement. After demonstrating the position, everyone practised the note carefully.

They each had their own moment in the circle as every child received one to one support on how they could improve. This thoughtful guidance and practical tips ensured that every pupil was able to strengthen their sound and technique.

A fun task followed where pupils were instructed to play their B note whenever the teacher opened her hand and to stop as soon as her hand closed. This activity strengthened their control, focus and teamwork.

The class then revisited the rhythm they had first practised with their voices and successfully played it on the recorder using the note B. To finish, they began exploring additional rhythms to develop their skills even further.

These lessons directly link to one of our school values Improvement. Each activity encouraged pupils to refine their technique, build confidence and understand how small steps lead to steady progress. Through practice, patience and support, our young musicians continue to grow and improve each week.
