This term, we had a fantastic experience visiting the Stepney Farm. It was a fun and active learning day, filled with laughter and discovery, that allowed children to learn and appreciate the natural world around them.

We started our session by looking at cute animals such as donkeys, sheep, goats, ducks, pigs, guinea pigs, and rabbits. The excitement on their faces was obvious as many of them were seeing the animals for the first time!

But that was only the start of the fun, because next we got a hands-on science class about plant anatomy. They discovered the functions of roots, stems, leaves, and flowers, learning how each plays a key role in keeping the plant alive.

They then took to the outdoors and headed to the gardens to identify herbs and crops like rosemary, mint, and even spring onions.

One of the highlights of the day was learning about the different kinds of foods that can be grown. The children were astonished to learn how everyday foods like baked beans, onions, and even coffee all come from plants!

They even got a glance at a functioning composter and discovered how the worms break down the food scraps to produce healthy compost; they all got to manually turn the handle!

The last activity was planting seeds on their own. Even though most of our pupils had never planted a seed before, they all did a fantastic job.

This experience was an ideal example of one of our values, Passion. The kids had an excellent enthusiasm for learning, finding out, and attempting new things. The passion and energy of our pupils made the day a wonderful experience.
