Visit from an Archaeologist

On Wednesday 15th October, we welcomed two local archaeologists, Katrina and Anna, who visited to share their exciting discoveries from a recent local dig. The pair had uncovered several artefacts believed to date back to Roman times, sparking curiosity and wonder among pupils across the school.

During their visit, Katrina and Anna spoke about the process of excavation, the importance of preserving history, and how archaeologists carefully piece together stories from the past.

Pupils were fascinated by the artifacts on display and eagerly asked thoughtful questions, demonstrating their enthusiasm and engagement throughout the session.

Our Early Years children also enjoyed a hands-on experience, taking part in their very own ‘dig’ in the outdoor area, guided by the visiting experts.

Equipped with small tools and big imaginations, the children carefully uncovered hidden ‘artifacts’, linking their discoveries to the current topic of Ancient Greece explored in our Pioneers class.

The activity not only deepened their understanding of the past but also encouraged curiosity and teamwork.

Pupils were encouraged to think more deeply about history and how everyday items can reveal so much about life in the past. For those keen to learn more, the archaeologist team will be running a free workshop during the half term, with details available on the flyer in our recent newsletter.

This visit strongly reflects our school value of Curiosity and Growth, as pupils demonstrated a genuine desire to learn, explore new ideas, and expand their understanding of the world around them, just like true archaeologists!
