Parents Internet Safety Coffee Morning

We were pleased to welcome parents and carers to our recent coffee morning focused on internet safety. The session provided an open and supportive space to discuss how we can work together to keep our children safe in an increasingly digital world.

During the morning, we explored the importance of being aware of online safety at every stage of childhood. Parents were reminded that while technology can be a positive tool, it is essential to guide children as they grow more independent.

Recent statistics show that 39% of adults find it difficult to manage their child’s screen time, and children spend an average of three hours and five minutes per day online.

Research shared by the Chief Medical Officer for the United Kingdom highlighted that screen time itself is not necessarily harmful, but it is important to consider how the internet is being used.

The session was lead by our Deputy Headteacher, Mr David Ash, who provided practical advice including avoiding phone use in bedrooms at bedtime to support healthy sleep, encouraging regular family time, promoting physical activity, and using parental controls to limit access to certain apps.

We also discussed online safety outside the home and the importance of talking to children about sharing information responsibly. Parents explored how to approach conversations about private accounts, digital footprints, and how to recognise artificial intelligence generated content. Resources such as ParentSafe was shared for further support outside of the session.

This event strongly reflects one of our values, Community. By coming together to share knowledge and strategies, we strengthen the partnership between home and school. Working collaboratively ensures that our children are supported, informed and protected both in and beyond the classroom.
