Earlier this term, Sir William Burrough welcomed parents and carers into school for our annual Curriculum Parent Event.  

The evening provided an excellent opportunity for families to meet teaching staff, learn more about what their children will be studying this academic year, and gain a deeper understanding of how we support every pupil’s learning journey. 

Teachers introduced themselves and shared an overview of the curriculum, outlining key areas such as English, Maths, and the wider curriculum.  

Parents learned about the programmes of study, the timetable, and how lessons are designed to build pupils’ knowledge and skills progressively across the year.  

There was also a focus on reading development, with advice on how families can support reading at home to strengthen vocabulary, comprehension, and a love of books. 

The event also highlighted the importance of home learning and effective communication between home and school. Teachers shared guidance on how parents can stay informed about their child’s progress and how regular dialogue supports both learning and wellbeing. 

A particularly exciting part of the evening was the preview of upcoming enrichment opportunities. These include educational trips, school performances, and special events that connect classroom learning to real-world experiences.  

Such opportunities are designed to deepen children’s understanding of topics while helping them develop confidence, creativity, and curiosity. 

Parents were encouraged to ask questions at the end of each session, fostering an open and collaborative atmosphere that reflects the strong partnership between staff and families.
