Sir William Burrough School recently hosted a heart-warming DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) event, inviting parents and carers to join their children in the classroom for a special 15-minute reading session. The initiative encouraged families to pause their busy routines, sit side-by-side, and enjoy the magic of reading together. 

Parents were warmly welcomed into classrooms, where they had the chance to experience first-hand how reading is nurtured and celebrated at our school.  

For many, it was an opportunity to see their child’s enthusiasm for books in action from sharing favourite stories to discovering new ones together. The atmosphere was filled with excitement, laughter, and, most importantly, a shared love of reading. 

By taking part, parents not only supported their child’s learning but also gained a deeper understanding of the school’s approach to literacy. The simple act of reading together is a powerful way to build relationships between parents, pupils, and teachers alike. 

The success of DEAR Time reflects our commitment to fostering a strong sense of community. When families and teachers come together with a shared purpose, children thrive both academically and emotionally.
